Blog 2 - Course Update

Assignment:
You must make a status update post on your blog this week. If you are doing the second project (the optional project for the A) discuss your ideas in this blog post. Otherwise just check in and let everyone know what you are doing to make sure you are making progress towards completing the class assignments.

This week I've researched and found 5 peer-reviewed articles for my annotated bibliographies. Some of these articles can also contribute to the Mobile Device Paper I will be writing about discussing the pros and cons of mobile devices for learning. Also, I updated my blog to include links to my projects / assignments.

Sometime this week I am planning on getting some of my bibliographies done because some of the articles I found are long. I am planning on doing the optional 2nd project. For this project I am thinking of writing a comparison paper that discuss the capabilities of mobile devices for learning or writing a book review that relates to mobile devices for learning. Does anyone know of any good books regarding this topic?

  1. On your paper you might want to narrow your focus down a bit. Try to pick a specific learning task or at least a grade level or something like that otherwise your paper will be much too long!

  2. In regard to using your annotated bibliography articles for your paper, I've had pretty good luck being able to use most of what I've reviewed for other papers/projects. Now let's see if I can keep it up.

  3. I too found many articles related to mobile devices. There is a lot to say about them being used in education. I haven't done any reading yet, but will spend my 4th of July weekend looking through them.

    When I looked at googlescholar and typed in mobile devices in education, it had a few books as links. You might want to check that out.

    Good luck with your bibliographies :)

  4. I think that most of us will be able to use the research and articles that we are using for the annotated bibliography for our projects, too. At least, we should try to do that to save a little time. I fould several artiles and have saved them but need to get busy and start reading them or time will be up and I won't be ready to submit my work. Good luck on your project.

  6. Hello Grace, I am sure you have enough to read. However, I noticed that Dr. Newberry suggested narrowng focus or choose a specific learning task.

    Here are a few suggestions for articles:

    This is a good article if your focus is Language Acquisition via m-learning.

    "Development of a cross-platform ubiquitous languagelearning service via mobile phone and interactive television."Full Text Available By: Fallahkhair, S.; Pemberton, L.; Griffiths, R.. Journal of Computer Assisted Learning, Aug2007, Vol. 23 Issue 4, p312-325, 14p.

    This article is good if your focus remains on Language Acqusition. This is a study on helping university students in Japan to learn English vocabulary terms in time intervals via mobile devices.

    "Using mobile phones in English education in Japan." Full Text Available By: Thornton, Patricia; Houser, Chris. Journal of Computer Assisted Learning, Jun2005, Vol. 21 Issue 3, p217-228, 12p;

    I have only read the abstracts of these articles. If they seem helpful to you go to CSUSB library (online):) EBSCOhost.

    I hope this is helpful. Good luck with everything.
